How to protect your privacy online
In light of the recent lawsuit by a local Kansan against social media giant Facebook regarding the use of internet cookies (small stored data files that track information) to track internet usage without the consent of its users, we thought this would be a good time to pass along some information on a Google Plug-in you can install on your computer that disables cookies. The plug-in can be found at http://tools.google.com/dlpage/optoutplugin/eula.html?hl=en_US for those who are interested.
Currently, the case in Kansas is on hold, pending the outcome of a panel's decision whether to consolidate similar lawsuits in various other parts of the country. The panel will be meeting on January 26th, 2012, so we hope to have information then.
Until then, keep in mind that the internet is full of useful information, someone else might find that it is your personal information that is useful to them. Be aware of which sites are secure and what their privacy policies are, especially if there is personal information involved.
