Supreme Court Allows Strip Searches

Should police be able to strip search a person? The Supreme Court thinks so. The United States Supreme Court has now paved the way for the utilization of strip searches by law enforcement when any arrest occurs. Well, surely that would be limited to more serious offenses, right? Wrong! It's allowed for any arrest, including a misdemeanor! In fact, the briefs cited examples such as unpaid parking tickets.

The five justices who made up the majority decision, cited terrorism, public safety and other reasons for their justification. They didn't believe that police would abuse this ability. The news and numerous stories of abuse would tend to make one believe otherwise. It should be noted that none of the justices currently on the Supreme Court were criminal defense attorneys. As lawyers, only two of them even have experience in criminal law.
