While the 5th Amendment protects you from incriminating yourself, some people just can't seem to help themselves. Recently, a woman posted an incriminating selfie of herself on Facebook, wearing stolen clothes.
Apparently, a multi colored dress had been stolen from a store. The owner posted a description of the thief and a description of what was stolen. After people compared the description to the thief's Facebook post, the woman was arrested for theft.
As a Johnson County, KS criminal defense attorney, I have represented many people accused of serious crimes including both misdemeanors and felonies. There have been instances where I had to deal with evidence they had posted online. Even innocuous things could potentially be used against you.
