Smithville, MO (August 18, 2023) – A major crash involving multiple vehicles took place in Clay County, leaving five people injured.
The crash was reported at around 9:50 p.m. on August 16.
According to reports from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2013 Hyundai Sonata ran a red light at US Highway 169 and Missouri Highway 92. As a result, the vehicle crashed into a 2013 Volkswagen Rotan as it was making a left turn. The force of the crash caused the Hyundai to overturn and strike a 2013 Dodge Journey.
Five people were injured in the accident. The victims were identified as 26-year-old Kelcey Ross, 27-year-old Jessica Vigil, 31-year-old Matthew Ross, 33-year-old Deandre Green, and 60-year-old Brenda Wisner.
Kelcey, Vigil, and Green were all transported to North Kansas City Hospital for the treatment of moderate to serious injuries. Ross and Wisner were transported to Liberty Hospital for medical care.
At this time, investigations are underway.
