Kansas City, MO (January 3, 2024) – Two people have lost their lives as a result of a motor vehicle accident that occurred in the Kansas City area on Tuesday morning, January 2. The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department was notified at approximately 2:30 a.m. that they were needed at the scene of an incident.
According to official reports, a robbery was reported at a convenience store located in the 9900 block of Northeast Berry Road. The suspect fled the scene of the incident before police arrived. Approximately one hour later, a second call came in regarding a robbery at a gas station on Northwest 64th Street.
Authorities responded to the scene to provide assistance. Again, the suspect left before authorities arrived. A third robbery occurred at around 4:15 a.m. at a Pilot gas station located in the 8800 block of Birmingham Road. Police arrived at the scene while the suspect was still on site. The same suspect was involved in all three robberies. The individual entered a black Dodge Charger and initiated a police chase.
The police pursued the vehicle on the northbound side of Interstate 435. After a short distance, the vehicle collided head-on with a Chevrolet Equinox near 210 Highway. The drivers of both vehicles were fatally injured. The incident prompted authorities to shut down the roadway for several hours as they investigated. Investigations are currently ongoing.
