Fatal Car Accidents in Missouri

Statistics in Missouri from 2022 show that nearly 1028 people lost their lives as a result of automobile accidents in the state. Authorities reported that this is the third year in a row that witnessed a significant increase in the number of fatal collisions that occurred. Unfortunately, the total number of totality reported in 2022 is the highest that Missouri has seen in nearly two decades.

There are a variety of factors that contribute to fatal car crashes occurring across our state. In many cases, these collisions can be attributed to negligence. Leading factors include:

  • Distractions: Distractions, such as talking on the phone or texting, can take the driver’s attention off the roadway and lead to a serious accident.
  • Failing to yield: Ignoring traffic rules and not yielding to other vehicles can cause serious accidents. This is particularly true when switching lanes or traveling through intersections.
  • Impairment: Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs can affect a driver’s ability to react to other vehicles and objects on the road. As a result, drivers are more likely to cause automobile accidents due to being unable to maintain control of their vehicles.
