Chilhowee Township, MO (October 13, 2023) – Troopers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol were requested at the scene of a fatal accident that occurred in Johnson County on Wednesday evening, October 11.
At around 5:35 p.m., first responders were called to the scene of an accident on Highway O.
Reports provided by MSHP trooper NJ Medrano indicate that a 2011 Dodge Ram pickup truck crashed into the rear of a homemade Amish buggy while traveling on the southbound side of the highway just north of Southwest 745th Road.
Both vehicles were severely damaged as a result of the accident.
Two people in the buggy were injured. The driver of the vehicle, 22-year-old Chris Kemp of Holden, Missouri, was transported by Johnson County Ambulance District to Research Medical Center for emergency care. His passenger, 20-year-old Katie Kemp of Holden, Missouri, was transported by LifeFlight to Research Medical Center. Authorities confirmed that she passed away after arriving.
The incident is being investigated at this time.
