Blue Springs, MO – Man Hurt in Two-Vehicle Wreck on I-70 near MO-7

Blue Springs, MO (February 3, 2024) – A 34-year-old man from Blue Springs, Missouri, was transported to an area hospital for the treatment of injuries following a motor vehicle accident that occurred in Jackson County. The Missouri State Highway Patrol was notified of the crash at around 4:20 p.m. on January 31.

According to official reports, the driver of a 2016 Kia Soul was stopped for a red light on the westbound side of Interstate 70 near the exit ramp to Missouri 7. For reasons unknown, a 2018 Hyundai Elantra crashed into the rear of the Kia. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage due to the crash and had to be towed from the scene. The driver of the Kia, identified as Christopher Ford, was injured. Ford was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for emergency treatment. The accident is under investigation.

We hope Christopher Ford recovers quickly following this accident.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Tens of thousands of people across Missouri are left with injuries as a result of car crashes that take place every year in our state. Although accidents can take place at any location, we see a significant number of crashes occur at busy intersections.

According to statistics provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 36% of all traffic collisions occur at intersections across the United States. Here in Missouri, we see many people injured as a result of accidents caused by negligent drivers. Some of the leading factors of car crashes at intersections in Missouri include:

  • Speeding: Some drivers may speed through intersections, which increases the likelihood of accidents.
  • Turning Vehicles: Many collisions occur when a driver makes a turn at an intersection, either by failing to yield the right of way or by turning too wide or too fast.
  • Poor visibility: Some intersections may have poor visibility due to obstructions. Other factors that can lead to poor visibility include defective traffic control devices and even inadequate lighting, which can make it harder for drivers to see other vehicles or pedestrians.
