Lee’s Summit, MO – Two Hurt in Three-Vehicle Wreck on I-470 at MM 10

Lee’s Summit, MO (January 1, 2024) – Two women were transported to area hospitals with injuries following an automobile accident that occurred in Jackson County. At around 4:50 p.m. on December 29, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and area firefighters were called to the scene of an accident on Interstate 470.

According to crash reports, a 2008 Hyundai crashed into the rear of a 2007 Mitsubishi while traveling on the westbound side of the interstate. The force of the collision caused the driver of the Mitsubishi to lose control of their vehicle. The Mitsubishi was struck by a 2020 Ford Escape near mile marker 10. The Mitsubishi then collided with a retaining wall. The Ford and the Mitsubishi sustained moderate damage and had to be towed from the scene.

Two people involved in the accident were injured. EMS responded to the scene to provide care to 51-year-old Melissa Wisdom and 75-year-old Gayle Watson. Lee’s Summit Fire transported the two victims to Centerpoint Hospital for emergency care. The circumstances surrounding the accident are currently being investigated.

Our thoughts go out to Melissa Wisdom and Gayle Watson at this time. We hope for their full recovery.

Car Accidents in Missouri

Being involved in a motor vehicle collision can be life-changing. Unfortunately, we see tens of thousands of people suffer injuries as a result of crashes every year in Missouri. In many instances, injured parties are rushed from the scene of their accidents and admitted to local hospitals for treatment. Depending on the severity and type of injuries, injured parties may have to spend several weeks or even months recovering from their injuries and going through therapy and rehabilitation.

Some of the most common injuries reported in Missouri auto accidents include:

  • internal organ damage that can be life-threatening
  • broken bones that require surgery and long-term care
  • severe spinal cord injuries that result in paralysis
  • traumatic brain injuries that result in loss of balance and mood instability

When people suffer serious injuries in accidents, they often have to go through long-term treatment. Unfortunately, a person is not guaranteed to fully recover from their injuries. As a result, we see countless people left permanently disabled following their car wrecks. When people are left with serious injuries as a result of accidents, they may have legal options available to help secure the financial resources needed to cover the costs of medical care and more.
