Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Missouri

Fatal pedestrian accidents take the lives of thousands of people in the United States annually. In Missouri, we see countless innocent people lose their lives as a result of these crashes. Reckless and negligent actions continue to be a leading factor in fatal pedestrian accidents across our state. Despite the number of laws that we have in place to protect pedestrians, we continue to see severe accidents due to drivers who:

  • Travel too fast: Speeding is a common reckless behavior that reduces the driver's ability to react to unexpected situations. It dramatically increases the force of impact in a collision, making injuries more severe for pedestrians.
  • Are Distracted: Whether a driver is texting, talking on the phone, or eating, these distractions take their attention from the road, increasing the likelihood of tragic collisions with pedestrians.
  • Drive while impaired: Impaired driving, whether due to alcohol, drugs, or fatigue, impairs judgment, coordination, and reaction times. It significantly impacts a driver's ability to make split-second decisions and operate a vehicle safely. These reckless actions not only jeopardize the lives of the drivers involved but also innocent pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles.
